A complete set of 48 hardcover books bound in full red leather with tasteful gilt trim on the spines and boards. The foredges and dentelles are gilt-trimmed, the spines have five raised bands each, and the endpapers are marbled. Attached ribbon page marker in each volume. Good+ condition overall. The spines and edges are slightly darkened, and the corners are mildly bumped here and there. Mild chipping at the heads of the spines of volumes XXI and XLVIII. The leather has a slightly sticky feel to it. Patchy tan discoloration on some leaves, mostly near the beginning and end, plus occasional mild foxing in text. Very faint ink signature of an early owner on a blank front endpaper in the first volume. Pencil note on page 187 of volume XIV, page 93 of volume 26, pages 5 and 21 of volume XXXII, pages 402 and 443 in volume XXXVIII, and page 90 in volume XLIII. Several leaves crinkled in the middle of volume XV. Stains on pages 214-219 of volume XXV. Bottom corners rubbed through on volume XXIX. Binding is secure across the set. Very well packaged. Better than some other sellers that just ship books in a Manila padded envelope. This seller had wrapped it in bubble wrap then placed in a box full of packed paper. Because of this extra careful attention the 139 year old book made it safe to its new forever home. The book arrived on time. As described. Great value for a book this old. The stain on front cover is exactly as described. I would prefer it to not have the stain but it definitely adds character.
