Description
Here is volumes 3 &4 (bound together as one) of a book set called "Marriage Ceremonies and Intercourse of the Sexes in all Nations; To which is added "The New Art of Love" ". It is written by John Joseph Stockdale (1770-1847) under the pen name Thomas Little and published in London in 1824. Volume 3 contains part of the world survey of marriage customs (293 pages) and volume 4 the essay "The New Art of Love"(184 pages). He published another similar book under the name "T. Bell". He had litigations over the accusation that he had published "indecent books". The original 4 volume set had as many as 12 plates, sometimes called anatomical and sometimes bound separately. This book of volumes 3 and 4 has only 2 plates opposite the 2 title pages. It doesn't look like any plates have been removed. Not ex-lib and no internal markings. The condition of this book is outstanding. Only a very slight bump to the upper corner and some slight foxing--discoloration to the plates and title pages. I have read this book called "erotica", but it might also be called anthropological. This book for sale here measures 4.25 in. X 6.5 in. and the calf binding looks original. This is a very scarce book.
