Description
This set of 10 soft leather-bound volumes by William Makepeace Thackeray is in very good condition. Gilding remains on the spines. All but one volume have black inner covers, Burlesque has a bluer inner cover with gilded leaves around the outside edges. The leather is intact (not crumbling), and other than fading along spines, and on some front covers (see photos, I showed everything), they are in great condition. The original book covers look to be a dark blue-green (though everyone sees colors differently), and the spines have gilded titles and leaves. The pages are very thin (tissue-thin), but in excellent condition, I flipped through all volumes and saw no damage. The Essays volume covers' corners are a bit bent at the bottom right, and one volume (Burlesques, I think) had darkening along the right page edges (viewed when book closed), but I show in a photo, this didn't "enter" the pages themselves. Might come off with wiping. No other damage to the books was noted. This set includes: Vol 1 - Vanity Fair (one of his most popular stories) Vol 2 - Pendennis Vol 4 - Henry Esmond Vol 5 - The Paris Sketch Book, etc. Vol 7 - Burlesques, The Fitzboodle Papers, The Fatal Boots. Vol 9 - The Virginians (I showed the face piece illustration from this book - all have an illustration opposite the title pages) Vol 10 - The Adventures of Philip Vol 11 - Catherine, Lovel the Widower, etc. Vol 12 - Barry Lyndon, Roundabout Papers, etc. Vol 13 - Miscellaneous Essays, Sketches, and Reviews. I included a thin flyer that lists the full set (among other New Century Library collections), just for reference. The books were meant to be pocket-sized and are roughly (I forgot to measure before packing) 6" x 4" x 1/2" each volume. I could be off, that's just an estimate. Please email with any questions.
