Collection of three 18 th century English pamphlets bound together. Two satirical writings directed to Sir Robert Walpole, 1 st Earl of Orford (1676-1745) , the first Prime Minister of Britain, as well as to several prominent members of the British Court and Parliament, including to the founder of the American colony of Georgia, James Edward Oglethorpe (1696–1785) , addressed by Sir Robert Walpole in the following terms: “ My Clemency I give to G---l O –th-pe,[ General Oglethorpe] that for the future, he may govern his American Subjects with less rigour . ” ( The Last Will , p.27) Two satires accompanied by a pamphlet with the printed testament of Sarah Jennings Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1660-1744) , a fierce political rival of Sir Walpole. Possession signature (dated June 1749) of Thomas Taylour, 1 st Earl of Bective (1724-1795), contemporary manuscript entries to endpaper. In a contemporary mottled calf binding (scuffs and superficial loss). Title pages a little soiled and with marginal perforations, a couple of leaves with minor paper loss at the edge or corner.
