This is a RARE 1903 assemblage of a 5 book set, each book containing up to 10 volumns of various early classic works by famous European authors, all having matching animal leather bound covers with gold gilt designed spines & titles. Published by Walter J. Black, New York, N.Y. in the early 1900s, the scope of stories having been penned much earlier by such noteables european authors as: Rudyard Kipling, Leo Tolstoi, Conan Doyle, Alexander Dumas & Guy de Maupassant. This 5 book set is bound in dark brown reptile leather with the special attribute of being luxury editions. Books measure 7.5" H x 5.5" W x 1.5" D (approx) This a quite a rare, large volumn set of famous literary authored stories set within their matched book covers, all uniquely hand crafted by use (of what strongly appears to be) Alligator Leather creating a soft/supple hardcover bound book, an extremely beautiful, rare & special set. All books & their covers remain in great condition overall. Two books, i.e., Kipling & Tolstoi, do have some spine seperation confined to their interior front spines, i.e., seen when book first pages opened, however the bulk of their hundreds of pages, up to 700+ each, remain intact, no seperation. Normal, light edge wear seen along exterior covers, a darkening of inside cover sheets on two books, one having the interior cover sheets in disrepair. Otherwise, excellent remaining thousands of pages within all books remain well attached to their spines; no rips, tears, fading, writing nor discoloring to these fantastic story pages. Gold lettering on spines & faces remains very good. Each book averages 700+ pristine pages. All 5 books are written in English & are considered timeless classics on the topic of novels.
