Theatre de J. Racine, ed. by Paul Albert. Published 1878, Paris by G. Jousset. 2 volumes. 552, 544 pages. Text in French. Engraved frontis portrait in volume 1 protected by original tissue guard. Period 1/4 leather bindings, raised bands, gilt title lettering, marbled covers & end papers. Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition. Bindings gently age worn, small remnant of sticker(?) at top of vol. 2 spine, leather rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, set remains overall attractive as an object. Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Seller was responsive; when I asked if he could ship both prints together, he was happy to do so and refunded the price of shipping for one of the purchases.
