From the Press Release in 1980: As the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrates its sesquicentennial year, it's fitting that Deseret Book Company’ would produce this limited facsimile edition on the 150th anniversary of the publication of the Book of Mormon. This anniversary, which occurs in March of 1980, offers special recognition to the most significant publishing event of the century, indeed, of the last dispensation. This facsimile edition matches as closely as possible the paper and binding of that first edition. Because methods of making paper, binding materials, and inks have changed, and because production techniques have been greatly improved, the book cannot be an exact reproduction.
