Description

NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE: The Scarlet Letter, The House of Seven Gables, The Blithedale Romance - 3 VOLUME SET (2003 Leather Bound, Easton Press) **NEW** The Scarlet Letter - First published in 1850 Set in 17th-century Puritan Boston, Massachusetts, during the years 1642 to 1649, it tells the story of Hester Prynne, who conceives a daughter through an affair and will not reveal her lover’s identity. The scarlet letter A (for adultery) she has to wear on her clothes, along with her public shaming, is her punishment for her sin and her secrecy. She struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. Throughout the book, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt. The House of Seven Gables - First published in 1851 The sins of one generation are visited upon another in a haunted New England mansion until the arrival of a young woman from the country breathes new air into mouldering lives and rooms. Written shortly after The Scarlet Letter , The House of the Seven Gables re-addresses the theme of human guilt in a style remarkable in both its descriptive virtuosity and its truly modern mix of fantasy and realism. The Blithedale Romance - First published in 1852 Abjuring the city for a pastoral life, a group of utopians set out to reform a dissipated America. But the group is a powerful mix of competing ambitions and its idealism finds little satisfaction in farmwork. Instead, of changing the world, the members of the Blithedale community individually pursue egotistical paths that ultimately lead to tragedy. Hawthorne's tale both mourns and satirizes a rural idyll not unlike that of nineteenth-century America at large. This masterpiece set is presented here in classic Easton Press style, factory sealed in plastic wrap, leather bound, gilt edged, finely illustrated and printed on acid-neutral paper with a ribbon marker. Prompt shipping. Packaged well. Good communication. Great customer service. Item arrived with manufacturing defect. Seller replaced item. Also, eBay issued refund and considered order closed. Replacement also had manufacturing defect. I can't access replacement order in the system to obtain defective item return shipping label. Seller advised me to keep item, or donate to library. I've seen this type of quality control issue on a few other, modern vinyl reissues.

Absolutely superb buying experience. The book was shipped quickly and delivered on time. Shipping was tracked for added security. The seller packaged the book very carefully so it wouldn't get damaged. This is something I appreciate a lot so my thanks to him. Condition of the book was exactly as advertised that is to say pristine condition. I couldn't be more satisfied hence my 5/5 positive feedback to the seller.

Item was as described and packaged well to preserve its great condition. Quickly shipped and arrived here in great shape considering the "coast to coast" travel. Would buy from again without hesitation. The dust jacket was well-protected in mylar and a great plus to the condition of the book as well as the value. Thanks for a great transaction.
