Extremities rubbed, edges and a few spine ends a little worn, some cracking to joints (but all strong), front flyleaf of vol. 1 partially adhered to pastedown. Ownership inscription of Tho. Hodges (dated 1773) to flyleaves. A nice and unsophisticated copy of the first edition of this lasting and important translation of Plutarch's Lives, frequently reprinted throughout the nineteenth century.
