This is copies of the scarce early leatherbound English editions of History of France Vol. I and II by Jules Michelet (trans. by Walter Keating Kelly). The two volumes were published by Chapman and Hall of London in 1844 and 1846, respectively. They contain a history of France from the Celts, Iberians, and Romans, through the time of the French Pope and the insanity of Charles VI, to the Reform and pacification of France. The author, French historian Jules Michelet, is considered a founder of modern historiography. Vol. I has a loose cover and writing on one page, while Vol. II has no writing or loose pages.
