Here is an extremely rare FIRST EDITION set of four (4) volumes, entitled, Hunting, Hawking and Shooting by C.F.R.G. Schwerdt. The set contains a catalogue of books, manuscripts and drawings compiled by the author, and includes 138 color plates, 145 black and white plates. The first and fourth volumes are signed by the author , who had the books privately printed in the limited quantity of only 300 sets, this set is number 174 of 300. Each volume is hard bound in half Moroccan green leather with leather corners, and gold stamping. The bottoms and sides of the paper are deckled edge, and the top of the pages are gold edged. Printed by Waterlow & Sons, London. The first three volumes were printed together in 1928, the fourth volume was added later, printed in 1939. Each volume measures 13 inches tall, 11 inches wide. They are in very good pre-owned condition. The volumes all have pencil handwritten on one of the blank lead pages with what appears to be the owner's name, probably written by the author or printer to help distribute the same numbered volumes to their intended recipients. All volumes also have the recipient's private library label on the end page on the inside of the front cover. There are rubs and scuffs, as expected, but no tears, rips, or significant flaws. I'm pretty sure all of the protective onion skin sheets that were inserted to protect the plates, are present. I did find one that was all folded up into the binding, as pictured. The gold embossed leather spines are a fabulous looking addition to any library. Winning bidder will receive the actual item pictured. Please review the photos for a complete description.
