Description

Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale? Here we offer a complete leather-bound 8-volume set of Bell's Edition of Shakespeare's Plays, printed in London in 1774. Bell's edition is notable for the wonderful engravings preceding each play. The books include the complete classic Shakespeare plays: King Henry V, part 8; King John; King Henry IV, Parts 1 &2; King Richard III; Measure for Measure; Hamlet; The Tempest; Merry Wives of Windsor; As You Like It; Macbeth; Othello; All's Well That Ends Well; King Richard II; Henry VI, Parts 1,2, & 3; Merchant of Venice; King Lear; Cymbellina; Much Ado About Nothing; Timon of Athens; Twelfth Night; A Winter's Tale, Julius Caesar; Coriolanus; Titus Andronicus , Comedy of Errors, Midsummer Night's Dream, Troilus and Cressida; Two Gentlemen of Verona; Anthony and Cleopatra; Loves Labor Lost; Romeo and Juliet; and The Taming of the Shrew. Expertly bound in calf leather, the books are in wonderful condition with some wear (please see pics). There are a few signs of repair, but these are hard to notice as they are professionally done. The last 3 leaves of Volume One (end pages of "All's Well...") are shredded (please see final pic). Otherwise, text pages are bright and crisp. Hinges are excellent and leather is pliable. Most of the books have a period bookplate and inscription. Some foxing and light stains within. Very tight and square bindings. Volumes average about 360 pages, with some ads. Books measure approximately 7.75 x 4.75-inches. Printed as revolution was only just brewing in the American colonies, as Mozart was still just a teenager; this striking, early, complete set of Shakespeare classics will make a wonderful centerpiece to your collection or a very special gift. The book arrived quickly and well-packaged with thoughtful touches - a wrapping sticker and a bookmark based on the book. The book is in beautiful condition, better than I expected from the description and pictures, and better than the same edition for similar prices from other sellers. A wonderful, professional seller.
