The American Practice of Surgery: A Complete System of the Science and Art of Surgery, by Representative Surgeons of the United States and Canada, edited by Joseph D. Bryant and Albert H. Buck. Published in 1906 by William Wood and Company, New York. Originally an eight volume set, this is incomplete with just three volumes: Vol. I, V and VI. Large (7 X 11 X 3 in.) hardcovers in 3/4 brown leather, with banded, gilt titled spines, marbled edges and endpapers. Each contains many black and white illustrations and photos, plus a few color plates. They have 818, 965 and 916 pages, respectively. Very good condition. Unmarked, complete, tightly bound copies. A couple of preliminary pages in Vol. I have small foxing/oxidation stains (see pic #50), otherwise there's very little foxing/staining inside. The leather exteriors have some scuffing/rubbing in places; there's mild shedding still in Vol. I's spine head. The top/front corner of Vol. I's front board is somewhat darkened, and all of the spines are mildly sunned and have scattered, dark stains. Some of the corners are mildly sunned. Most of the board corners are rubbed through. The cloth cover on Vol. I is just beginning to lift in a few places. Gilt titles are still bright and the leather is still lustrous.
