Seidl, Anton. The Music of the Modern World (Two Volume Set) : Illustrated in the Lives and Works of the Greatest Modern Musicians and in Reproductions of Famous Paintings, Etc. D. Appleton & Company, 1895. Leather: VG. Vol. I is bound in full leather with gilt lettering on the cover and spine and Vol II is bound in half-leather, both volumes have similiar gilt lettering and blind-tooling and are 16" x 13". A very good set of Seidl's masterpiece; all plates are present as called for an in very good condition, except where noted. Volume I has 24 photogravures, 25 typogravures in color and four halftones. There is a small chip on the lower corner of the tipped in plate "Maurel as Iago", "Emma Eames as La Contessa" has a crease on the corner and "Marcella Sembrich as Violetta" has a short closed tear. "The Glinka Anniversary" is tipped in at an angle. Several leaves and plates have very short tears in the margins. Volume I has a number of small punctures in the leather of the rear cover. Volume II has 29 full page illustrations plus an engraved portrait of Wagner. Both volumes have occasional scuffing to the covers and strong hinges.
