Description
William Seward (January 1747 – 24 April 1799) was an English man of letters , known for his collections of anecdotes. These volumes of "Anecdotes of Distinguished Persons" were published shortly before Seward's death. Consequently, this is the last set that was subject to Seward's artistic control. Seward spent over 30 years studying and collecting anecdotal facts from journals, letters and first person interviews. His work is considered a cornerstone in the private and public lives of the most prominent and influential people in Europe and England from the end of the thirteenth century through the eighteenth century. Please refer to the table of contents within the photos for information as to who is included.
