Top edges gilt. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front blank of both volumes. One of Dumas's Marie Antoinette romances, this work was first published in serialised form in La Presse . The events of the novel are loosely based on the Affair of the Diamond Necklace, an incident during the years 1784 and 1785 which involved Marie Antoinette in fraud and scandal. Written in the original French. Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library. CONDITION In half morocco bindings. Externally smart, with fading to the spines and minor shelf wear to the boards. Light rubbing to the head of the spine to Vol II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned but clean.
